Paediatric Osteopathy for Babies

Gentle support for your baby (and reassurance for you)

If you’re wondering whether your baby is uncomfortable, unsettled, or just not quite themselves, you’re not alone. Many new parents notice small signs that something feels “off” – feeding can be difficult, sleep can be one-sided, or digestion can seem uncomfortable.

Paediatric osteopathy is a very gentle, hands-on treatment that aims to release and balance areas of physical tension in your baby’s body. Cranial osteopathy is the most well-known approach for babies, but we may also use other soft techniques to help your baby feel more settled, comfortable, and free to move.

Why Bring Your Baby to Come to See Us?

Babies can experience tension or imbalance for lots of reasons – including their position in the womb, a long labour, a fast delivery, or an assisted birth. Sometimes it shows up as:

  • Discomfort in feeding positions
  • Always turning their head to one side when sleeping
  • Digestive discomfort (including reflux or constipation)
  • General unsettledness

Our aim is to support your baby’s comfort – and to make day-to-day life feel easier for you as a parent.

Service

What Happens at the First Appointment?

Your first appointment starts with a calm chat with a parent or caregiver. We’ll ask about what you’ve noticed, your baby’s routine, and any relevant details about pregnancy and birth.

We then begin gentle treatment. Babies usually find it relaxing – many even fall asleep during the session.

You are also welcome to feed your baby, during treatment if they are due a feed or need a feed- often times it even helps us to see certain things like how their jaw moves while feeding, how they latch onto bottle or breast as well as other issues to do with feeding.

After the first treatment, we’ll talk through what we found and what we recommend next. Sometimes one session is enough; sometimes a short course of treatment is more helpful, depending on what your baby is experiencing.

What Can Paediatric Cranial Osteopathy Help With?

Cranial osteopathy may support babies with:

  • Digestive problems (including reflux) – which can sometimes be linked to tension through the body following delivery
  • Flat head syndrome (positional plagiocephaly) – head shape asymmetry that can develop during pregnancy, birth, or early weeks if baby prefers lying on one side
  • Breastfeeding or bottle-feeding difficulties – sometimes associated with strain through the jaw, neck, or chest (for example after a long or assisted delivery)
  • Torticollis – where baby’s neck tilts or turns to one side, which can be related to womb positioning or a difficult birth
  • Constipation – gentle treatment may help by relaxing the pelvis and supporting coordination of gut function

If you’re not sure whether osteopathy is appropriate for your baby’s symptoms, we’re happy to advise.

Lennie, has been a great practitioner for my son. He has tourettes and ADHD and we are using the service to help calm his nervous system to lower anxiety on his body and help reduce his tics. Lennie is really lovely and takes her time to get to know you. Highly recommend.

I went into my osteopath appointment today with Sandra with a complex issue of recurring migraines and visual disturbance due to medically needing to withdraw from the medication that keeps them at bay. Sandra worked her magic, after treating neck and shoulder tension she went on to do some cranial work. I am amazed at the difference it has made. My head is no longer swaying and the headaches/migraines have been relieved. Thank you so much.

Sandra is very knowledgeable, professional and also very personable. She not only listened to my complaint about a local pain in my ankle, but also checked my posture, pelvic position and gave my lower body a full MOT. Be aware, though... she has fingers stronger than Superman! Having said that, she managed to sort out niggles I've had for ages on the spot, as well as created a treatment plan for that achy ankle. I can happily recommend Sandra for your next treatment.

Absolute power house of a session, I ache in all the right places, got the right level of support for where I am... and rapidly discovered I need to have a way more consistent support/program/level of focus to get back to the level of fitness I've been missing for a while. At 47, sitting on my ar$e all day doing what I do, helping everyone else, I realised it was time to kick my health and wellbeing back into gear and this session was a perfect starter... and I'm going back for more! Thank you for a stressful, for all the right reasons. whilst entertaining evening, thank you
