Prenatal & Postnatal Osteopathy
Support for your body through pregnancy and beyond
Pregnancy and new parenthood can be an exciting time, but it can also be physically demanding. Your body is adapting quickly, your posture and movement patterns change, and the day-to-day realities of carrying, feeding, lifting, and broken sleep can take their toll.
Prenatal and postnatal Osteopathy offers gentle, hands-on treatment to help ease discomfort, support mobility, and help you feel more comfortable in your changing body.

Prenatal (Pregnancy) Osteopathy
How osteopathy may help during pregnancy
As your bump grows, it is common to notice new aches and pains, especially through the lower back, pelvis, hips, ribs, and upper back. Osteopathic treatment can help by addressing joint stiffness, muscular tension, and postural strain.
Common reasons people book during pregnancy include:
- Lower back pain
- Pelvic girdle pain (PGP) / SPD-type pain
- Hip pain
- Rib or mid-back pain
- Neck and shoulder tension
- Headaches linked to muscular tension
- General stiffness and reduced mobility
Service
What to Expect
Your appointment starts with a thorough case history and assessment, so we can understand what is going on and what you are finding most challenging.
Treatment is tailored to you and your stage of pregnancy, using gentle techniques to help reduce strain and improve comfort. If appropriate, we can also share practical advice on posture, movement, and self-care between appointments.
Service
Postnatal Osteopathy
Support after birth, whether your delivery was vaginal or C-section
After birth, your body is recovering while you are also doing a lot of new physical work. Feeding, holding, carrying, lifting, and settling your baby can all place extra demand on your back, shoulders, and hips.
Postnatal osteopathy can help support recovery and ease common postnatal aches and pains.
People often book postnatally for:
- Lower back pain
- Pelvic or hip discomfort
- Upper back, neck, and shoulder pain (often linked to feeding and carrying)
- Rib pain
- Wrist or forearm pain from lifting and holding
- Postural strain and general tightness
If you have had a C-section, we can also work gently with the body to help address tension patterns that can develop during recovery.

Who can join our pregnancy-friendly classes?
For safety, we have two routes depending on whether you were already attending Pilates with us before pregnancy.
- If you were already doing Pilates with us before becoming pregnant: you can usually continue in classes with appropriate modifications.
- If you are already pregnant and new to Pilates with us: we require one-to-one sessions first so we can assess you properly and tailor your programme.
This approach helps us keep your movement safe and appropriate for your stage of pregnancy.

Postnatal Pilates
Assessment required before you start
After birth, your body needs time to recover, and it is important to return to strengthening in a safe, progressive way.
Before you join postnatal Pilates, we require an assessment. This allows us to check key factors such as:
- Abdominal separation (tummy gap / diastasis recti)
- Your overall readiness to begin strengthening after pregnancy
- Any symptoms that may need extra support (for example pelvic heaviness, pain, or leaking)
From there, we can recommend the most appropriate next step for you.
A supportive return to movement after birth
Postnatal Pilates offers a structured, progressive way to rebuild strength and confidence.
Postnatal Pilates may help you:
- Rebuild strength and stability through the core and hips
- Improve posture (especially if you are feeding and carrying frequently)
- Reduce tension through the neck, shoulders, and upper back
- Improve overall strength, mobility, and energy
We will always take your recovery into account, including C-section recovery.
Frequently Asked Questions
I am pregnant. Can I join a class?
If you were already attending Pilates with us before pregnancy, you can usually continue in classes with modifications.
If you are already pregnant and new to Pilates with us, you will need to start with one-to-one sessions first for your safety.
I have just had a baby. Can I start postnatal Pilates straight away?
We require an assessment before you start. This helps us check your tummy gap (diastasis recti) and your readiness to begin strengthening after pregnancy, so you can return to exercise safely.
Do I need to have done Pilates before?
No. We can guide complete beginners. If you are pregnant and new to us, you will start with one-to-one sessions first.
Is it suitable if I have pelvic girdle pain (PGP) or back pain?
Often, yes. Pilates can be adapted to support you. We will always work within your comfort and modify movements to avoid aggravating symptoms.
Can I bring my baby?
For 1 to 1 sessions, you could bring your baby especially as they will still be in a car seat stage. As they get older and start moving, it might be a little bit distracting for you to concentrate but of course we can accommodate. Please let us know when you book so we can advise on the most suitable session type and set expectations.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing you can move in. Grip socks mandatory for reformer sessions.

I went into my osteopath appointment today with Sandra with a complex issue of recurring migraines and visual disturbance due to medically needing to withdraw from the medication that keeps them at bay. Sandra worked her magic, after treating neck and shoulder tension she went on to do some cranial work. I am amazed at the difference it has made. My head is no longer swaying and the headaches/migraines have been relieved. Thank you so much.![]()

Sandra is very knowledgeable, professional and also very personable. She not only listened to my complaint about a local pain in my ankle, but also checked my posture, pelvic position and gave my lower body a full MOT. Be aware, though... she has fingers stronger than Superman! Having said that, she managed to sort out niggles I've had for ages on the spot, as well as created a treatment plan for that achy ankle. I can happily recommend Sandra for your next treatment.![]()

Absolute power house of a session, I ache in all the right places, got the right level of support for where I am... and rapidly discovered I need to have a way more consistent support/program/level of focus to get back to the level of fitness I've been missing for a while. At 47, sitting on my ar$e all day doing what I do, helping everyone else, I realised it was time to kick my health and wellbeing back into gear and this session was a perfect starter... and I'm going back for more! Thank you for a stressful, for all the right reasons. whilst entertaining evening, thank you
